A customer received this email from ygregistry.cn today, and asked us if was legit.  After a quick Internet search we found many other instances of similar emails and the consensus is they are a scam.

As a rule any email you receive regarding your domain names that comes from a company you have never heard of or never done business with should be viewed as highly suspicious, and should either be ignored or looked into.

Subject: notice protect– internet trademark intellectual property safeguard

Dear Manager:

We are a domain name registration service company in asia, which mainly deal with international company’s in Asia.We have something important need to confirm with you company. On the May.11th,2009, we received an application formally. One company named “HANHONG Investment company” wanted to applying to register “onlinecoffeeco” as Internet Trademark and “.CN/.ASIA” domain names (.cn/.com.cn/.hk.cn/.tw.cn/.asia).

During our auditing procedure we find out that the alleged “HANHONG Investment company” has no trademark, Intellectual property, nor patent even similar to that word. we found that the keywords and domain names applied for registration are as same as your company’s name and trademark. Two point need you to confirm:

1.whether this alleged “HANHONG Investment company” is your business partner or distributor in ASIA. 2, Whether your company need to remain the priority to register these names yourself?

If he is your company’s partner , we will finish his application. If he is not, hope you can tell us your company’s decision on this matter.

Looking forward to your reply.

Best regards!

Chris Wu
